BACKGROUND

In October of 2018, I joined the University of Iowa Student Government ticket Ignite Iowa as a marketing coordinator. In five months, we built a mission statement, platform, and an entire marketing strategy. The role harnessed my copywriting, photo, and design skills equally.

With only a week and a half of campaigning permitted by the elections commission, we had to leave an immediate and lasting impression with our social media and marketing.

Through our hard work, every single member of our ticket was elected, including our presidential and vice presidential candidates.

KICKOFF VIDEO

On March 24th at 10 PM Central, all UISG parties were permitted to launch their campaigns. In addition to launching a instagram feed pre-loaded with content introducing our candidates and our initiatives, we posted a 37 second video on all of our platforms: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The video was quick and was meant to get students excited for the election season. It was also quick enough for students to digest and be able to spread to on their platforms.

More than anything, we wanted to provoke a sense of energy and action from our team and set the tone for the upcoming week and a half of campaigning. Scroll to watch the video by Matthew Hsieh.

SOCIAL MEDIA

 Campaign Party Platform

Below, you will find the official Ignite Iowa Platform PDF. This document contains the party's mission statement as well as all of the initiatives in their respective categories. The PDF was a useful tool and much more formal to send to local media outlets as well as people who did not have access to our social media accounts. When creating the document, I kept in mind our branding to keep a cohesive visual language flowing throughout.
